Musk: SpaceX’s Grok Bot to Use Claude Opus 5.5, Midjourney and Suno for the Best Results

Quick Reads
- Elon Musk says Grok Bot will route tasks to outside AI models, including Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5, Midjourney, and Suno, instead of relying only on Grok.
- The move deepens Musk’s ties with Anthropic, which signed a deal in May 2026 to use all the compute at SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center.
- Musk gave no details on how task routing works, costs, data handling, or a timeline, calling the announcement a direction rather than a finished launch.
Elon Musk has announced on Wednesday that Grok Bot will start using the best back-end model for any given task, including Claude Opus 5.5, Midjourney, Suno and other leading APIs. In his post on X, he said the choice will depend on “whatever is most likely to give you the best outcome.”
“Important note regarding Grok @Bot: Going forward, SpaceX will use the best back end model for any given task, including Claude Opus 5.5, MidJourney, Suno and other leading APIs. Whatever is most likely to give you the best outcome.” Elon Musk on X
What Remains Unclear
The announcement describes a direction rather than a finished launch. Musk did not say which tasks go to which provider or how the selection works. The post also gave no commercial terms or timeline.
Questions about user data matter too, since Grok Bot acts inside users’ connected apps, which makes provider choice, data handling and user controls part of the product’s trust model.
The move stands out because Musk has pitched Grok 4.5 as an “Opus-class” model that is faster, more token-efficient and cheaper. Choosing outside models suggests a more practical approach, where results count for more than model loyalty.
Several questions remain open. Users will want to know how the bot picks a model for each request, whether costs change, and how their data is handled when a request goes to a third-party API.
For now, the message from Musk is simple: Grok @Bot will use whichever tool does the job best.
A Shift to Multi-Model AI
SpaceXAI, a SpaceX subsidiary, announced Grok Bot in August as individual agents with their own computer, able to complete multiple tasks in parallel. Until now it ran on the company’s own Grok models. The agent now works more like an upper-level system that breaks down tasks, calls models and executes the work, rather than relying on Grok alone.
The move also deepens ties with Anthropic. In May 2026, Anthropic signed a deal to use all the compute at SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data centre. For Midjourney and Suno, the move adds distribution through a fast-growing agent with large consumer reach.
