Netflix Launches a Free Kids Games App With No Ads and No Catch

Quick Reads
  • Netflix launched a standalone app called Netflix Playground on April 6, 2026, giving children a dedicated space to play games separate from the main Netflix platform.
  • The app is designed for children aged eight and under and comes at no extra cost — it is included with every Netflix subscription tier.
  • There are no ads, no in-app purchases, and no hidden fees; games can also be played offline.
  • It launched in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand, with a worldwide rollout set for April 28.
  • The launch is part of a broader push by Netflix into kids’ content after years of mixed results in the gaming space overall.
Ad-Free Kids Gaming App, Playground

Designed for children ages eight and under, Netflix Playground is included with all memberships and makes saying “yes” to playtime easier, with no ads, in-app purchases, or extra fees. Simply download the app to a smartphone or tablet and sign in to your Netflix account to access an ever-growing library of games for kids.

The app launches with eight game titles, all built around characters children already recognise from Netflix shows. Games include “Playtime With Peppa Pig,” where players jump into Peppa’s world with a collection of playful activities, and a Sesame Street game where players practise matching with memory cards or coordination with connect-the-dots. Other titles at launch include Dr Seuss’s Horton!, Bad Dinosaurs, StoryBots, and Let’s Colour.

Additional titles featuring characters from Gabby’s Dollhouse, PJ Masks, My Little Pony, and PAW Patrol are expected to follow later in 2026.

Because every activity is instantly playable and available offline, Netflix Playground is designed to work on long aeroplane rides or grocery trips, ensuring the only surprise is how much fun kids have along the way.

The app arriving as its own separate product, not buried inside the main Netflix interface, is a deliberate design choice. Rather than continuing to layer game content into the main Netflix app, Playground breaks the offering out into a purpose-built product, one that parents can hand to a child without any risk of them accidentally navigating into adult content, an ad, or a tempting in-app purchase screen.

Netflix VP of Animation and Kids & Family TV John Derderian put it plainly in the company’s official announcement: “We’re building a world where kids can not only watch their favourite stories, they can step inside them and interact with their favourite characters. We’re creating a seamless destination for discovery, learning, and play.”

This launch also comes alongside a wave of new kids’ content announcements. Netflix has also ordered an animated preschool series called Young MacDonald and renewed Trash Truck and The Creature Cases. Over the next few months, new episodes of CoComelon Lane, Ms Rachel, and Sesame Street are set to arrive, along with a Gabby’s Dollhouse feature film premiering on May 23. [The Hollywood Reporter]
