Tyson Fury stepped on the scales in London on Friday and weighed in at 267.9 pounds, three pounds heavier than Russian challenger Arslanbek Makhmudov’s 264.9 lbs, setting up a heavyweight contest 16 months in the making. The bout takes place Saturday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in front of a crowd of more than 60,000 fans, live on Netflix.
It is a dramatic transformation for Fury, who arrives 13 pounds lighter than the career-heaviest 281 lbs he carried in his December 2024 rematch with Oleksandr Usyk , a fight in which the additional weight offered him no advantage. Friday’s number suggests the former two-time champion used his absence from boxing purposefully, returning leaner and considerably more focused.
The weight gap between the two men is among the tightest Fury has faced in years. Makhmudov typically competes between 260 and 265 lbs, he was 261 lbs when he stopped British heavyweight Dave Allen last October, meaning the Russian will not be physically overwhelmed. Fury’s edge, if there is one on the scales, is marginal. The fight’s outcome will hinge on skill and conditioning rather than sheer size.
The occasion marks Fury’s fifth return from retirement and his first fight since those back-to-back defeats by Usyk. His opponent is unbeaten as a professional in three years and arrives with genuine knockout credentials, 19 of his 21 wins have come inside the distance. Makhmudov has stated publicly he intends to win, though the scale of the challenge against one of the most naturally gifted heavyweights of his generation is not lost on him.
Conor Benn and Regis Prograis both came in without incident for their 150 lb catchweight bout. Benn scaled 149.5 lbs, dropping ten pounds from the 160 lb middleweight limit at which he fought Chris Eubank Jr. twice last year. The Briton credited daily 10-kilometre runs and gym consistency for allowing him to accept the fight on six to seven weeks’ notice. Prograis, a former junior welterweight champion who has spent his entire career virtually at 140 lbs, came in at 148.1 lbs and indicated he views the weight bump as advantageous.
