Mac users have long watched iPhone owners enjoy a slick, living notch at the top of their screen. Now, a new app called SuperIsland delivers that same experience to macOS, and then goes a step further.

SuperIsland is a free Dynamic Island for macOS that turns the screen notch into a real-time activity hub. It displays live music playback controls, calendar events, weather, and file trays without cluttering the desktop. More importantly, it supports a developer SDK that lets anyone build and submit custom extensions.

The app ships with several ready-to-use extensions out of the box. Users can already access WhatsApp Web notifications and reply directly from the notch. Additionally, a Pomodoro timer, an AI agent status notifier, a Linear integration, and a Last.fm tracker all come built in. The builder, Shobhit, also created the popular SuperCmd app, which gives the project a credible pedigree.

What sets SuperIsland apart from other Dynamic Island clones is its programmability. Many similar tools are paid and offer no extension support. SuperIsland, by contrast, opens the SDK to any developer and merges approved pull requests to expand the extension store.

The AI agent integration stands out as particularly timely. Users can monitor Claude and Codex usage and receive live alerts when an AI agent needs attention. That feature positions the Dynamic Island for macOS squarely in the workflow of developers running background AI tasks.

SuperIsland is free to download at dynamicisland.app and its source code is open on GitHub, inviting the community to help it grow.
