OpenAI Codex Is Now on Your Phone

OpenAI is bringing its AI coding agent to mobile. The OpenAI Codex mobile app integration is now available in preview on both iOS and Android through ChatGPT, giving developers the ability to monitor and manage their coding workflows from anywhere.
The update gives users enhanced flexibility over how they can manage their workflows. Through the ChatGPT app, users can now view their Codex live environments across any device where it is running. According to OpenAI, the feature goes well beyond simple task control. “From your phone, you can work across all of your threads, review outputs, approve commands, change models, or start something new,” the company said in a statement.
The OpenAI Codex mobile app rollout is part of a rapid expansion of the tool’s capabilities. Last month, OpenAI gave Codex the ability to run in the background in desktop environments, empowering the tool to handle various tasks autonomously. Earlier this month, the company also introduced a Chrome extension that allows the agent to work in live browser sessions.
The timing is not coincidental. In February, Anthropic released a similar feature called Remote Control, which allows users to remotely monitor Claude Code’s work from a distance. The two companies are locked in a fierce race over whose agentic coding tool developers will ultimately adopt. Anthropic’s Claude Code has gained in popularity among businesses and tech professionals over the past year, though both tools continue to see wide use.
Codex was originally launched approximately a year ago, and its arrival on mobile marks a significant step in OpenAI’s push to make AI-assisted development a constant, always-accessible part of a developer’s life, not just something tied to a desk.
