ByteDance World Model

Imagine telling AI, “Create a futuristic city,” and instead of getting a picture or video, you actually step inside the city and explore it.

That’s reportedly the direction ByteDance is heading.

According to Bloomberg, ByteDance is developing an AI “world model” capable of generating interactive 3D environments in real time. Founder Zhang Yiming is reportedly personally overseeing the project.

The technology is expected to be built on Seedance, ByteDance’s existing AI video-generation model, and could work with Pico, the company’s extended-reality hardware business.

Reports suggest the system could generate interactive environments that respond to users’ voices and movements, with around 20 frames per second and latency of approximately 0.05 seconds.

And The Possibilities Go Beyond Gaming

ByteDance reportedly sees potential uses in live streams, short-form dramas and video games, turning passive content into something users can interact with.

The move also puts ByteDance in competition with companies such as Google and Meta, which are investing in similar world-model technology.

AI may soon move from creating things we watch to creating worlds we can experience. And ByteDance clearly wants to be part of that future.
