Amazon Bets $25 Billion on Anthropic in a Bold AI Infrastructure Deal

Amazon is going all in on Anthropic. The e-commerce and cloud giant has agreed to invest up to $25 billion in Anthropic, on top of the $8 billion it has already poured into the AI startup in recent year. The deal, announced on Monday, is one of the largest single commitments in the history of artificial intelligence and cements Anthropic’s place at the very centre of the AI arms race.

Structured in two parts is The Amazon $25 billion Anthropic investment. Amazon is putting in $5billion immediate investment, with additional payments as much as $20 billion tied to commercial milestones being met. The latest funding priced at Anthropic’s current valuation is of $380 billion.

The financial commitment runs both ways. Anthropic has pledged to spend more than $100 billion on AWS technologies over the next decade, and will secure up to 5 gigawatts of capacity for training and powering its models using Amazon’s custom Trainium chips. The partnership spans access to Trainium2, Trainium3, Trainium4, and future chip generations, as well as tens of millions of Amazon’s Graviton CPU cores.

Beyond compute, the deal reshapes how businesses access Anthropic’s technology. The full Claude platform will be available directly within AWS, letting customers access Anthropic’s tools through their existing AWS accounts, billing, and security controls ki a significantly deeper integration than simply listing Claude through Amazon’s Bedrock marketplace.

The Amazon $25billion Anthropic investment also arrives with a pointed message to rivals. OpenAI claimed last week that Anthropic had made a “strategic misstep to not acquire enough compute” and was “operating on a meaningfully smaller curve.”7 The deal’s guarantee of up to 5 gigawatts of Trainium capacity is a direct answer to that criticism.

Amazon is running the same playbook across the AI landscape. Just two months ago, Amazon invested $50 billion in OpenAI and struck a $100 billion cloud deal with Anthropic’s chief rival. The back-to-back mega-deals position AWS as the essential infrastructure layer for both of the world’s leading AI labs simultaneously.

Anthropic and OpenAI have both been racing to strengthen their positions ahead of potential IPOs that could come as soon as this year.u With Amazon now firmly entrenched as Anthropic’s primary cloud and capital partner, the company heads into that race with significantly more firepower than it had just weeks ago.
