The AfCFTA Startup Programme 2026 is now open, and time is running short. Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially announced the initiative on Tuesday, calling on entrepreneurs, innovators, and scalable businesses to submit applications without delay.

The AfCFTA Secretariat, in partnership with the Republic of Korea and the Korea-Africa Foundation, designed the programme to deepen trade, innovation, and private-sector ties between Africa and Korea. The Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, confirmed the details in an official statement. Consequently, the door is now open for African startups with bold business models to step forward.

The AfCFTA Startup Programme targets businesses operating in five strategic sectors. Specifically, those active in fintech, digital commerce, manufacturing, logistics, and agricultural value chains stand the best chance of selection. Furthermore, only about 30 startups across the entire continent will receive spots, making this a highly competitive opportunity. As we previously reported on Glostarep, the programme specifically targets growth-stage startups that have validated their product domestically but need structured global infrastructure to scale.

Those who make the cut, however, stand to gain enormously. According to the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, selected participants will access business acceleration support, mentorship, capacity-building programmes, direct market exposure, and investment networking in South Korea. In other words, this goes far beyond funding, it connects African founders to one of Asia’s most dynamic innovation economies.

The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader push for continental economic integration. It follows the Federal Government’s April 2026 rollout of multilingual AfCFTA toolkits in English, Arabic, and Hausa. Additionally, in March 2026, the AfCFTA Secretariat selected Nigeria as the West African pilot for its Simplified Trade Regime, a framework designed to simplify cross-border trade procedures for small-scale operators.

Interested Nigerian startups must visit the official AfCFTA programme portal at au-afcfta.org to access eligibility criteria, guidelines, and the application form. For enquiries, startups can also reach the team at Abibata.Mahama@au-afcfta.org or SME.Support@au-afcfta.org. Applications close on May 31, 2026, there is no time to waste.
