The Infinite Partners fund has closed at R2.8 billion ($169.8 million), beating its original target of R2.5 billion ($151.6 million). According to TechCabal, the South African private equity firm has announced the final close of its Core Equity Fund II.

Meanwhile, the fund received support from different parts of the financial sector. Pension funds, insurance companies, asset managers, and banks all invested in it. In addition, Africa Private Equity News reported that the firm received support from both new and existing contacts in the asset consulting sector.

With the funding now secured, Infinite Partners plans to use the money to help established mid-sized businesses grow. It will also provide replacement capital to businesses that need it. For this purpose, the firm expects to invest between R100 million ($6 million) and R500 million ($30.2 million) in each business.

Explaining the firm’s strategy, co-founder and CEO Edward Pitsi said Infinite Partners looks for strong businesses with good growth opportunities and the potential to create long-term value. In other words, the firm wants to back businesses that can grow and remain valuable over time.

Already, the fund has started investing. So far, it has backed two businesses: e4 and CYNK. While e4 provides enterprise software for the banking and property sectors, CYNK develops and owns digital infrastructure assets. Together, these investments give the fund an early presence in technology-related businesses.

Beyond these initial investments, the Infinite Partners fund also provides more local funding for growing businesses in South Africa and the wider African market. Founded in 2022, the Sandton-based firm has grown quickly. As a result, raising R0.3 billion above its original target marks another important step in the firm’s growth.
