AI agent platform for traders

A new startup backed by Y Combinator says individual traders can now operate with the capabilities of a full investment firm. Instinct has unveiled what it describes as the first frontier agent harness built for solo traders, an AI agent platform for traders designed to replace the patchwork of disconnected tools most of them rely on today.

Moving institutional capacity to individuals

For decades, institutional advantage has come from organizing talented people around large pools of capital. Instinct’s pitch is that this organizational capacity can now be handed to individuals. The platform gives each trader a team of AI agents, each with its own computer, working in parallel.

According to the company, those agents can synthesize large volumes of market data, news, and social activity at once. They can draw connections across markets that no single person could track, build their own tools, investigate opportunities, and carry the work through to execution.

Built by researchers from finance and physics

The Instinct team includes researchers and engineers from Squarepoint Capital, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN), the USC Quantum Computing Center, and Toss. The company says its mission is to build the operating system on which a new generation of investment firms will run, each centred on an exceptional individual working with a team of agents.

The Y Combinator listing shows Instinct in the Winter 2026 batch, with CEO Joon Won Song, a former quantitative developer at Squarepoint Capital, and CTO Eunju Moon, a USC quantum computing PhD dropout. ycombinator

A 24/7 market with tens of thousands of venues

Instinct argues that finance is shifting toward a global, round-the-clock structure, with tens of thousands of markets trading simultaneously. For a lone trader, covering that ground currently means stitching together information and workflows across many separate tools. Instinct aims to bring that setup into a single harness.

The $1 billion prediction

Instinct has made a bold forecast about where this leads:

“The first one-person investment firm managing $1 billion will emerge within two years.” — Instinct, in its launch announcement

The company adds that this firm will run on Instinct. The claim is the company’s own and remains to be proven, but it signals how seriously founders are betting on agentic AI reshaping who gets to compete in financial markets.

For retail and independent traders, including those in emerging markets such as Nigeria, tools like this could lower the barrier to sophisticated, multi-market investing. Whether the agents deliver on that promise will depend on their execution quality, risk controls, and the judgment of the traders directing them.
